Personal Ryan:
That’s me and my dad. I am a therapist in honor of my dad.
On the surface, my dad had it all— success, beautiful family, lots of golf. But beneath the surface he was struggling. And he almost lost everything because of it.
When I was a kid, my parents struggled to get along and my dad and I struggled to get along. That shaped what I wanted to do when I grew up. I didn’t want to be an astronaut or NBA player. I just wanted to be the best husband and father.
I remember being 11 years old and Googling “how to be the best dad/husband/friend” and reading article after article. I want to be the best version of myself and help other men do the same. And I want to be the therapist that could have helped my dad— helped him heal his wounds, be more present, and develop skills to love his family well.
In adulthood, I had a great relationship with my dad. He died from cancer a few years ago. I love him and miss him. And I know he’d be proud of my work helping men get healthy and connect.
