What to expect
Most people come to therapy because something is off—a thought, a feeling, a relationship, or a difficult life event. Therapy can help people get unstuck and move toward meaningful change.
My role is to…
Create a space for change and
Offer some stuff to encourage change.
Creating a space for change means listening with warmth and intentionality. I hope clients leave feeling cared for, heard and understood. And some stuff to encourage change may be thoughtful questions, new perspectives, useful resources, and honest challenges.
For specific examples of what “some stuff to encourage change” might be, I’m working on some in-depth guides for different presenting concerns like depression, anxiety, etc. More info coming soon!
Values
These are some values that inform the way I do therapy:
Evidence-based. I strive to do everything according to research and best practices..
Measurement-based care. Tracking progress is important. If something isn’t working, let’s talk about it and do something different.
Human. It can’t always be research and data. This stuff needs to be useful for a real, live human. Practical. It’s gotta be practical. Practical. Human.
Holistic. Biopsychosocialspiritual. body, brain, emotions, relationships, contexts.
Strengths-based. Not just the medical model, deal with symptoms, get rid of the bad. Also increase the good.
Collaborative. This is a team effort. You’re the expert, I’m just a guide.
Connection is everything. “What really works in therapy is one human connecting with another.” Mary Pipher
